Hello and welcome to my blog!
I created this blog to record and share my experiences and everything I’ve learnt from living with mental health issues over many years.
I speak from the viewpoint of one who’s had firsthand experience of living with mental illness as opposed to a healthcare professional. An insatiable quest for answers as to how and why my mental health issues started took me on a long and difficult journey of discovery which has led to a much better understanding of the subject.
I hope to offer a fresh perspective on mental health issues including their causes, how they develop, what keeps them going for so long and what we can do about it.
I want to provide information in the hope that readers can take something from it that is helpful in their lives.
As for me and my background – my name is Greg. I live in Australia. After doing fairly well at school, I’ve had two ‘careers’ – one modest and one quite successful.
The first was in the financial services industry working firstly with a bank then two credit unions.
After that I published crossword puzzle magazines in my own business for nearly twenty years. Mental health issues, especially depression, severely affected me for the last few years of this business.
I’d built it up from scratch and I tried desperately to keep it going. But in the end the mental health issues proved too much and I ceased publication of the magazines at the end of 2018.
Knowing I’d left behind a loyal group of readers was the thing which caused me the most heartache.
In the years which followed, my steely, long-held resolve to reach a greater understanding of my mental health finally reaped rewards. By the middle of 2022, I’d started to take control of my mental health issues, not the other way around.
And as the journey of discovery goes on, I want you to share in the knowledge that I’ve acquired, and hopefully continue to acquire into the future.
