Hello and welcome to my blog, Why I Am Like I Am.
Like so many other people, my mental health journey has been a long and challenging one.
The blog records and shares my experiences and all the things I’ve learnt from living with mental health issues including OCD, PTSD, depression and anxiety, along with a significant inferiority complex over many years.
I should make it clear that I’m not a healthcare professional. My deepest knowledge has come from firsthand experience of living with mental illness. I hope you’ll find that this fact adds something fresh to the discussion, in turn providing a better understanding of mental health issues.
In the last decade I’ve asked a lot of questions as to why and how my mental health was the way it was. This led to a lot of research which, combined with the intimate knowledge I already had from my own experiences, ultimately provided a lot of answers. Some of these answers took years to discover and no doubt there are many more to be found.
The tremendous amount I’ve learnt so far has given me a greater knowledge and understanding of my own mental health issues and mental health generally.
I simply must share what I know with you. A lot of the information I want to share is not readily available, if at all, in the usual sources. I’ll dig as deep as I can into all the hows and whys of mental illness, including its origins, and I’ll try to be completely open and shame-free when it comes to the detail.
I hope you’ll find the blog interesting, and who knows, you might find something which is helpful in your life.
I truly hope so!
